First visit to Kawaguchi’s Menya Eita, a popular shop featured in TRY’s rich tsukemen category and Tabelog’s list of top 100 restaurants. As expected, there was a line of over 10 people during lunchtime on Saturday. With only 7 seats inside, turnover is slow.

After waiting for about an hour, I got in and ordered the Eita Tsukemen (300g, 1,350 yen) in medium size. The price is the same up to the medium portion, so it would be a waste not to go for the medium at this price.

The soup is a double broth made by combining the flavors of pork bone and chicken stock with seafood umami. The taste is strong, but it’s not very viscous and is quite smooth. The temperature is slightly lukewarm, perhaps.
The noodles are thick, and because they are thick, they don’t cling much to a low-viscosity soup, but since the flavor is strong, it might be just right. The highlight of Eita Tsukemen seems to be that it’s generously topped with chashu and menma! The soft-boiled seasoned egg is also excellent. I’m completely full.
